Steamed my first sticky rice in the new Wohnung last night.

Listened to my first news and paced the floor for the first time.

My drawers and shelves are full. I’ve flushed the toilet a few times now, taken two showers.

The cubboards are screwed to the wall. I mean that more like a ‘cup board:’ a board with cups.

I even nailed up a few pictures.

I’m getting situated.

I’d like to dedicate this post to the Knüller Kiste (translates to ‘Blockbuster Box,’ basically a dollar store) located across the street from my apartment, without which last night’s rice wouldn’t have been possible.

Unpacking my ‘kitchen’ I realized I didn’t have much of a kitchen and for a few euros at the Knüller Kiste I got hooked up.

Wooden ladels and mason jars.

And then I cooked me some sticky rice, vegetables and a spicy sauce and made me a cocktail.

It’s too bad the world outside politically and financially is falling apart…because my little world here is pretty cool, I was sitting and thinking yesterday. Europe and the US were racing to the bottom, and the Mideast, as always, was madness. The rest of the world Floods and Freak Storms.

But my cup board and shelves, and my tiny one room apartment across the street from the Knüller Kiste gave me a warm feeling and the past week has been warm and half sunny here in Berlin and you coundn’t hope for anything better than that at this time of year and the sun was all shining in my living/sleeping/office room.

And then I went to bed early because I had to get up and go to work.

About Andrew Flohr-Spence

Something about the sound and the word. Was a singer/bassist for five years, a German major for five, an English teacher in Germany for another five, then a journalism major in Denver for 5 more, and now I'm back in Berlin (for a while, I intend).
